Fulbright Foreign Student Program

Applications for the 2025-26 Fulbright Foreign Student Program are now open! The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables Malawian professionals to study for a Master’s degree in the United States for one year or longer. The Program accepts several fields of study including technology, journalism, agriculture, business, economics, law, engineering, education, and others.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is intended for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be Malawian citizens or permanent residents qualified to hold a valid passport issued by Malawi.
  • Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree (with credit or distinction), with a record of outstanding academic achievement and preparation in their chosen field of study. They must show high motivation and serious commitment to completing the program and to returning to Malawi.
  • Applicants must be candidates for an advanced degree in their current field. Applicants who wish to pursue study in a field other than their current degree, must demonstrate adequate background in that new field.
  • Applicants must be sufficiently proficient in English to enable them to complete a full-time program of graduate study in the United States.
  • Applicants should have little or no previous experience studying or working in the U.S. Preference will be given to candidates who have not studied overseas at all in the last 5 years.

  1. Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 Fulbright Foreign Student Program.
  2. Application Deadline: March 17, 2024. 
  3. Application materials are processed using a software to help identify any instance of plagiarism. If plagiarism appears in any part of your application, it may result in disqualification from participation in the program.

Prospective Fulbright participants should also be aware that public health conditions, availability of consular services and travel, as well as U.S. institutional operating status and policies may affect their ability to travel to the U.S. and participate in academic programs.
