The Canon Student Development Programme offers aspiring photographers from across Europe, Middle East and Africa an incredible opportunity to meet leading industry experts and have their portfolio professionally assessed.

Prize Information

  • The Programme will comprise three separate modules
    • Module 1: Virtual Portfolio Preparation Mentorships
      • Up to 100 admitted Participants will be partnered with a professional mentor between22nd April – 31st May to support and refine their portfolio and new project proposal. Each Participant will be granted up to three one hour sessions. All sessions will be conducted virtually.
    • Module 2: Workshop
      • Following the conclusion of module 1, up to 25 Participants will be selected in June to attend a 4 day workshop taking place between 31st August – 4th September 2024 in Girona (S) and Perpignan (F). During the workshop Participants will attend dedicated lectures, take part in group portfolio reviews, practical sessions, attend the Visa pour l’Image Festival (“Festival”) and benefit from networking opportunities with representatives from the imaging and media industry.
    • Module 3: Gear and Grant
      • 3 Participants will be selected in September to receive a €2k (two thousand Euros) grant to produce a new photographic project and Canon product(s) comprising of a camera body and lens, as determined by the Organiser. Upon being awarded the grant, the 3 selected Participants will endavour to:
        • Complete the project based on the project proposal submitted at the end of the first module by 01 July 2025;
        • Provide 10 high resolution images as agreed upon between the Participant and the Organiser

Eligibility Criteria

  • All entrants (“Entrants”) must:
    • be aged 18 and over at the date March 7th, 2024;
    • reside across Europe, Middle East and Africa
    • have started or completed an education programme in the countries listed below during the academic year 2023-2024, or
    • be engaged in internships by agencies or magazines within the same period; or
    • be nominated/endorsed by professionals from the photographic industry
    • Canon reserves the right to verify Entrants eligibility and admission by requesting a copy of your ID and either proof of your enrolment on a qualifying course/internship/agency, or for those entering under nomination by photographic industry professionals, a letter of recomendation from the endorsing professional.
    • Participants who attended Module 2 or 3 of the 2022 or 2023 Canon Student Development Programme are not eligible to enter and/or participate.
    • Employees of the Organiser, its subsidiary companies, their families, agents and other parties directly involved with this Programme and the sponsorship are not eligible to enter.
    • Your portfolio should be within the genre of photojournalism and (or) documentary photography.

Languages

  • The official and only language of the initiative is English, no translation services will be provided, Participant need an adequate proficiency in English to benefit from the Programme, the necessary tools and adequate skills to attend the digital online settings.
