Intermix Residency Programme welcomes applications from visual artists, fashion designers, and curators, both Saudi and resident, and emerging and mid-level international participants, aged 21 or over, who wish to develop a production or production project.

The research relates to the areas of innovation, transformation and sustainability. The applicant must demonstrate a high interest in collaborating in the production of interdisciplinary work as well as in group and peer learning.

In addition to the program’s general contribution goals of enhancing residents’ readiness and ability to participate effectively in the cultural sector in the Kingdom and abroad, each session of the residency program includes a number of different and complementary activities.

In addition to studio work, the program offers weekly workshops and collaborative training aimed at unleashing knowledge dissemination and interdisciplinary research among residents. The program will also be enriched by holding development sessions for the participants’ previous work portfolio, holding a series of lectures and discussions, organizing visits to artists’ studios, and cultural tours (inside and outside Riyadh), in addition to a studio event open to the public for two days.

Each course welcomes seven visual artists, seven fashion designers and one curator. This structure may vary depending on the number and quality of applications received for each category.

The program will be coordinated and organized by the residency team in collaboration with local and international experts.

The residency program offers the following:

  • A private work space for each participant.
  • Residence within walking distance of work spaces.
  • Shared facilities.
  • A round-trip economy class ticket to and from Riyadh.
  • Facilitating the issuance of visas to selected international participants.
  • Monthly support to cover personal and living expenses for the duration of the program.
  • A customized production grant, the value of which is determined through an assessment of the specific needs and requirements of each individual project by the residency team.
  • Transportation to and from planned group trips within Riyadh.
  • Transportation and accommodation for the cultural expedition outside Riyadh.

Duration: 10 weeks

Application Conditions

  • Age
    • All applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of commencement of residency.
  • Language
    • Proficiency in Arabic and/or English.
  • Nationality
    • They welcome all applicants from Saudi citizens, residents and international participants of various nationalities.
  • Artistic practice
    • Participation is open to emerging and mid-level practitioners in the fields of visual arts, fashion design, and artistic evaluation. Who can demonstrate previous experience in producing visual artwork, artistic evaluation, or fashion design, whether academically or professionally.
  • Commitment
    • For applicants who can commit to being on-site in Riyadh for the full duration of the course (10 weeks) and are fully prepared to develop a creative or research-based project focusing on themes of innovation, transformation and sustainability in relation to the intersection of visual arts and fashion design. In each session, they will collaborate with the participating curator to design the final exhibition for the open studios.
  • Completed orders
