- The Nordic Africa Institute announces the African Scholarship Programme 2025.
- An opportunity for early career researchers in Africa in Social Sciences and Humanities.
About the Programme:
- Supports early career researchers in Africa.
- Provides access to the institute’s library, collaboration, networking, and additional resources.
- Aims to strengthen ties between African and Nordic research communities.
Programme Duration:
- Minimum of 60 days to a maximum of 90 days.
- Note: Nordic Africa Institute and Nordic institutions may have reduced operations during specific periods.
Financial Support and Benefits:
- Comprehensive scholarship package includes:
- Return airfare.
- Accommodation.
- Daily subsistence allowance.
- Installation grant.
- Access to shared office space with a desk computer at the Institute.
- Subsistence allowance provided only for days spent in Uppsala.
Research Opportunities:
- Specialized library focusing on contemporary African literature and Social Sciences.
- Access to Uppsala University Library and Library of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
- Opportunity to present research at the Nordic Africa Institute and visit other Nordic institutions.
Who Can Apply: Open to two main categories of early career researchers:
- Full-time staff employed by an African-based university or research center enrolled in a doctoral program.
- Postdoctoral researchers within five years of completing their Ph.D.
- Research topics should align with Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on contemporary Africa and UN Agenda 2030 principles.

- 1-page work plan specific to the Institute’s duration.
- Signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or senior scholar.
