The Ruthin Education is inviting you to participate in the Y Talent Award, an international visual arts competition to celebrate the creativity of exceptional young artists between the age of 13 to 18 from all around the world.

The Y Talent Award is a collaboration between Y Art Centre, founded by the internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Yue Minjun, and Ruthin School, one of the oldest schools in the UK. The judging panel will select ten prize winners, including one grand prize. The judging panel consists of five professional visual artists, who are honorary members of the Y Art Centre. The ten winners will be invited to exhibit their work at Ruthin School, UK, from June to July 2024.

The judges are looking for a blend of creativity, technical prowess and emotional resonance. Like the works of Yue Minjun, they will seek artworks that demonstrate a unique and innovative approach to the medium, pushing the boundaries of traditional aesthetics and challenging the status quo. Originality and a distinctive artistic voice will be highly valued, as well as the ability to convey a compelling narrative or message through the visual language. Technical skill and craftsmanship will also play a significant role, with attention to detail, composition, and use of materials being key considerations. Furthermore, the judges will look for pieces that evoke genuine emotions, provoke thoughtful reflection, or spark a visceral response in the viewer.

Awards

  • The Y Talent Award Grand Prize winner will receive £5,000 GBP in cash and a £5,000 GBP worth of 10-day Art Residency at the breathtaking resort and landscape of ‘Twelve Behind’ located in Guizhou, China. Twelve Behind is a dramatic landscape of waterfalls, mountains and boasts the longest cave system in Asia. It is famous for its stunning beauty and a place where artists gather from across the world to be inspired and create work.
