“Educating the Eye” Photography Contest

The Mercè Rodoreda library in Castell-Platja d’Aro and s’Agaró, with the support of the Photographic Association Educating the Eye, organizes the international competition of photographic projects “Educating the Eye” to stimulate and reward economically photographic projects of national and international authors who are able to surprise, excite and move with their vision of the world around them.

Theme and Technique 

• The theme is free, as well as the technique used. The only requirement is that the images must have been taken with a photographic camera or any other device with camera; all sorts of manipulation and hybridization are allowed. The original image files should be printable in photographic quality with a minimum size of DinA4 (min. 3600px at the large side).

Award Information

• A total of €5,250 in prizes will be awarded, distributed among 5 winning projects.
  • First prize 2.000 €
  • Second prize 1.000 €
  • Third prize 500 €
  • Prize young author (under 35 years) 1.000 €
  • Local prize (author is resident of the province of Girona) 750 € 
• In addition, the finalist and winning projects are exhibited in the municipality of Castell-Platja d’Aro i S’Agaró.

Who can apply?

• Professional or amateur photographers, individuals or groups. Each participant can send a maximum of two projects. Members of the organization of the Photographic Weekend are not eligible.
• Each author can present a maximum of two photographic projects. The creativity and expressive capacity of the projects are especially valued.

Evaluation Criteria

• A jury, consisting of 3 photography professionals and a Secretary will select the finalists and winners of the competition.
• The creativity and expressiveness of projects will be especially valued.
• The verdict of the Jury shall be unappealable.
